Day two in Nicaragua

A lovely breeze blowing again today and low 90s. So grateful for the nice weather. It's the end of summer and so it's not as humid as I was expecting it (this is their dry season). We arrived at the school and this darling woman made Jayna this very cool swan folded from 100's of little papers. Jayna had bought a mango from her the day before. So kind.

Joined in on a bit of dancing today before sewing class. So much fun, no wonder the kids want to stay all day with her!

Alena got some kids to help her sort buttons.

Everyone sewed button holes today. It took about an hour, I was so impressed.

Finished projects and Jayna teaching music. I watched her yesterday too because we teach a little of this to the elementary kids tomorrow. (Tried with the 2nd graders today, they did great w the rhythm, but not so great with following notes to play a song...)

Visited LaCar's home to see his art work. He is a young adult that the group came across last year who has never had an art class, but is very talented. His mother makes and sales pottery (lots of piggy banks of farm animals that you see for sale along the roads).

It was a great day. We headed back too late to go to the mud pits, so we stopped for a dinner of pizza and then back to the hotel to shower and hit the hay. Night.

Day one in Nicaragua

First day in Nicaragua :). I helped to teach a class of first graders art and music. They were so adorable! Loved being in there with them. The next class I worked with was a little more rambunctious. Then we had lunch and some of the American kids here (we have 11 here this year) taught some of the Nicaraguan students the Boot scoot and boogie line dance. Then I helped in the sewing class in the afternoon. Our translator kept leaving so I helped angelika as best I could and then alma (translator) had to tell her why we did certain things the way we did. Interesting, but she is a quick learner and sewed a beautiful pillow case. We then returned to the hotel in Leon. Wish morgan, amy and Mary were here :) same hotel we stayed at two years ago. Had a dinner that took only about an hour to arrive, morgan you'd appreciate that :). Had some very very yummy coconut ice cream! Mmmm and then returned to the hotel Austria. Quite the day. Oh by the way next week is suppose to be the hottest week of the year. It's been 99 degrees all week and today we had a breeze and it was only 91 degrees. Everyone at the school said it was the nicest day all month! Thank heaven for little miricles!

February

The beginning of February and we finally got a small glimse of blue sky.  Below was Grant's second indoor track meet.

More of Tanya playing basket ball.  This was the night of the crazy ice storm and I slid down a street in Layton trying to get to the game, took me 15 minutes to slide from snow pile to snow pile to get out.  Crazy weather.  I don't have pictures, but Brett and Calvin came and stayed with us this weekend.  Took Morgan skiing with them on Saturday -- it had been two years since Morgan had skiied and it took her half the day to get comfortable again.  While I'm talking about skiing... Victor got his F's up enough to be able to ski with the jr. high school.  We are still having issues, but he has started trying with Troy and has joined the living again (I think because Troy told him he could get a job if he was going to quit school, seems to be working).

This is YW basket ball.  I love being in with the beehives, they have brightened up my life.  Make me laugh all the time, I was so afraid of the calling and it's been a blessing.

Grant ran the two mile last Friday.

Cute beehives and Morgan again, love my girls.

Battle of the Bands, go Grant!

January activities

Morgan played the baby kangaroo in Sussical last week.  She made a darling, sassy, baby kangaroo.

Grant ran the mile at BYU indoor track last saturday, before Jr. Prom...
