Grants Eagle Project

Ok. We had 53 blankets to work on for Grants Eagle Project. We got a handful tied and 16 fleece blankets cut. There are tons of pictures, thank you Morgan for taking pictures for Grant as he was helping people and working on his own blankets. So we'll see what we get done this week and then send them off to Kremenchuk.

Science Projects

Grant's science project was to see how different spectrums of light affected plants. So he put plants under white light and a black light for three weeks to see how they did. Overall the flowering plants faired better than the leafy plants under both lights. The leafy plants under the black light thrived at first then wilted.

Morgans project was to see how different ingredients behaved when placed on fruit. She did pears and apples and put vinegar, salt, sugar, baking soda and cinnamon on apple and pear slices. It was interesting to see how the apples dried or didn't dry out and their coloring.

Victor placed four bean seeds in bags with wet cotton balls and put one in dark closet, one in the pantry (open and closed), one in the window and one out side. The dark closet one grew the most, I think because it was in the warmest area of the house but it was yellow and white. The pantry one grew a lot too, was greener than the dark closet, but less leaves than the window. Window one grew slower, but more leaves and healthiest. One outside never sprouted, too cold.

Grant's Eagle Project

Sorry this is so last minute. Grant is doing his Eagle Project tomorrow night, Tuesday, at our church building on Eagle Pointe drive in North Salt Lake. He has about 40 fleece blankets to be cut around the edges and 15 blankets to be tied. He is then sending them to our friend Anya in Kremenchuk in the Ukraine to give to children in the orphanages that she works at. The scouts will be working on them and some of Grants friends, but we also wanted to invite anyone from Save a Child who wanted to come. We'd love to have you. It will be from 7-8:30pm and we will have some kind of treats, to be decided tomorrow : )

breaking apples w aly

Cute cousin Aly came up for dinner Sunday and Grant began eating an apple. A couple months ago he started to try different ways of breaking apples in half so he didn't have to take them cut up in his lunch. You know, they go brown and I guess he didn't like eating them whole even though he now has his braces off and can easily bite into an apple. Well, whaaala! One day he broke an apple in half. Let me say, yes, last month we went through hundreds of apples.

So Sunday Grant wasnt' eating any old apple but one that he broke in half right in front of us. Now we have all seen this 100's of times and are no longer wowed by his great feat, but Aly about fell off her chair as she watched the entire process. So the next hour was spent teaching Aly how to break and eat an apple so she can be even cooler than she already is down at BYU.

Halloween

Crayon Morgan headed out the door first on Saturday to go trick or treating and hang out with her friend Becca. Then Victor snuck out -good thing I already have lots of pictures of him in his costume- to also go with a friend and then he ended up staying and eating and watching a movie with Sam's family. I bribed Grant with treats and offered the house to a bunch of boys to hang out or play video games if they DIDN'T go Trick or Treating this year. It went over well and Troy took them to VI at 10:30 for breakfast, but they just ate pie!
So that left Tanya, Ethan and Ana to go trick or treating around the neighborhood. It was raining and even with her coat on, Ana lasted about 20 minutes. So she became my helper and handed out treats the the cute kids that braved the rain. Tanya and Ethan went until their buckets were breaking. As we have always done, with the exception of last year, we told the kids to eat what they wanted that night and the next day but then it goes in the community basket for lunches and what not (like bribery) and then is thrown out so I don't eat it all. So they ate some Saturday and went to bed and got up and traded and ate more Sunday. Tanya amazed us again this year as in one hour she unwrapped and ate her entire bucket of candy! I don't know how she doesn't get sick. Ana and Victor did the same last year, but ate on and off all day and then dumped half of their treats in the community bucket. Its nice to know that they have developed trust with us and know that there is food and treats and don't have to eat everything in sight any more. Victor still has a crazy appetite and if he's hungry and it's something he likes he can still pack away more food than anyone else in the family. I'd say Tanya and Grant are a close second, Grant just needs to eat a full meal every two hours!

Tiff made the cute pin and hair clip (looks the same as pin). She is so creative and talented. The girls have loved them, in fact Morgan wore hers to school again yesterday! Thanks
