La Vie en Rose

Fun fact of the week: in French, an S at the end of a word is silent :) Thanks to sister Mariteragi for teaching me bits of French haha.

Bonjour à tous!

I realized for the past 3 weeks my fun fact of the week has been longer than my weekly email... so I am going to do a short fun fact and try to tell some stories this week :) Two cool experiences about people we are working with!

1) There is this family we have been working with, where two of the kids are baptized and two haven't been. So while teaching the follow up lessons we are teaching normal lessons to the kids who haven't been baptized. One concern with this family, is the kids are very very mean to each other. Even though individually they are sweet and have a testimony of the gospel, put them together and they are sarcastic and bitter towards one another. I'm used to a good dosage of sarcasm since it tends to be a part of my humour, but with this family it's just used to hurt each other. So I sat them down and made them say 3 things they loved about each other instead of our normal lesson. Honestly at first it was really hard for them to even give one compliment to each other. Their aunt had to do a bit of bargaining/threatening, but after a while they got the hang of it. By the end, the spirit was so strong and there were hardly any sarcastic comments being made to each other. I just felt so much love for and from the kids :) it was a good lesson.

2) We have been working with this woman for a while who has a lot of interest, but is struggling to know that God is there. This week we committed her to pray about a specific concern or question in her heart. I ended up giving the promised blessing, and I promised that she would receive an answer that week. As I was giving the PB, I was pretty nervous since I personally don't have power to answer her question. But I really felt that that was the promised blessing she needed, so I gave it to her. A few days later she texted us and told us she had prayed and knew that God was there and  felt His love for her! It was so great to see that promise fulfilled :)

That leads me onto my spiritual thought (which i haven't given in a while...)! For her to receive that blessing, she had to have faith and do what we committed her to do. Another factor, was I as a missionary had to have faith that God could make it happen. Even when we aren't missionaries, when someone we know or love is struggling and we want to help them, we can pray for them all we want but if we don't have faith that Heavenly Father can bless them, they may not receive the blessings he has in store for them. That was cool for me :)

Okay so this email is way longer than my last few so hopefully it makes up for my lack of writing these past few weeks.. months... transfers....

Love you all!!

Changing of the Seasons...

Fun fact of the week: In Australia they call gum "chewy", and in New Zealand they call the back of the car the "boot"!

Yello!

This week was full of lots of changes! The first change is that President Cummings is no longer our mission president! Now we have President Erekson, who is just as cool (so I've heard) and we get to meet him on Tuesday :) Apparently he knows quite a few of my family members from Idaho so that's cool! I was sad to see President go, but I'm excited to see what President Erekson will bring :)

So this is kinda technical boring stuff about online teaching, so you have my permission to skip it haha. Recently, okay I guess a little over a year ago, Europe passed a law about privacy which impacted how long we can hold information for, and what we can write about people we're working with. On Tuesday the Church implemented a new design in area book (where we record information and progress of people), so that it acts in accordance with the new European laws (the GDPR). This means that for any country other than the US, we aren't allowed to keep any background information on the person. We are allowed to fill out gender and age range, but there is no open text box for us to write freely little things that we feel would benefit the next missionaries. This makes things extremely difficult in the OTC because not only do we have to uphold this to the highest of our abilities because we represent the church virtually, but now if we don't remember something about someone, we have no way to write it down. It's also made a few struggles in the proselyting field in New Zealand because we fall under a "restricted" country which basically means we can't write down information or record a lot of their progress. So we are working with what we got!
Alright boring part of the email is over now...

Another change is that it went from chilly to COLD this past week. There's no snow like in Utah for which I'm grateful for, but our flat isn't very insulated which just means we sleep with three blankets each. I'm finally getting into the New Zealand winter! (I'm sorry I feel like I've been complaining about the cold for the past month or so by now haha)

Other than that, this week has just been lots of meetings and contacting :) One cool experience is that since Hamilton is a very small zone, a lot of our areas are close to each other and we give and receive many referrals from surrounding missionaries. Earlier this week, the Assistants to President gave us a referral for someone in our area, but when we tried to contact her the person living in the house said she didn't live there. So we went to the house next door and they also said that she didn't live there, but that person used to take lessons from missionaries and had just moved into our area and lost contact with the missionaries when she moved! Hopefully we will be able to teach her in the near future because she likes the lessons and the church and the father of her kids is also a member!

I'd love to share 3 Nephi 12:47 which reads: "Old things are done away, and all things have become new." I think this scripture goes along nicely with the theme of my email so far :) A lot of things have changed, some good and some bad. But in the end, all thing shave become new. This has hit me strongly especially when it comes to repentance. I definitely get caught up with my little mistakes and convince myself that I don't deserve forgiveness or Gods help because of my sins. But who am I to put God in a box and tell him what he can or cannot do? After we change, old things are done away and all things can become new, through our Saviour Jesus Christ.

I love you all heaps! Please let me know if there's any way I can help any of you :) I am here to listen!

Some notes sent to Morgan from Troy in June

I’ve been up in Idaho fishing with a client so I have no cool instagram photos to send you. I need to get caught up!

But I’ve been thinking about you a lot this week. I don’t like to think about you being disappointed in yourself. You are one of the most amazing people I know and I am more proud of you than ever. I really hope you can put behind you m what seem to me as silly and minor mistakes and get back to being confident about who you are (daughter of god and one of his chosen missionaries) and back to serving 100% the people who need you.

Ok here’s a short fish video for inspiration.

Love you tons. More later.

------
Mom or I may have already mentioned this to you, but it was really special.  Grandpa and Grandma were down here for Sawyer’s second surgery, and we did the blessing in their hotel room so that it would be quiet (our house had all of Tiff’s kids in it). Ethan was given many neat blessings and has a lot to look forward to in life.

We have youth conference this week, and Mom and I have a lot to get ready for still!  We are doing one of the activities, and it will be an adventure. Will fill you in next week.

Love you tons and think of you often.

Two cool things I saw today:

----

Hey Sister Keller!

I hope you had a great week!  Hope you had some great teaching opportunities and that things are going well all around.  Mom and I were at youth conference for a few days this last week, and it was great.  We ran one of the activities and spent some time with the youth in our still very new ward.  Good kids, and Ana and Ethan each seemed to have a good time.  Yesterday, we enjoyed a leisurely day, something I really needed.  Went on a bike ride and had our neighbors over to swim. Ethan and Ana did some chores in the morning and worked in the afternoon.  Ethan played frisbee golf with friends.  Poor Aunt Tiffany basically spends her whole days taking care of sawyer.  When you are in a wheelchair, you have a lot of needs, and Tiffany is right there for him all day every day.  It’s impressive.

We have a departing missionary speaking in our ward today, a sister Eversole.  I’ve forgotten where she is headed.  We haven’t had many leave or come home recently but should have a couple more this summer.  Not like some of our wards we’ve lived in where the summers seemed filled with departing and returning missionaries.  Here is the current list of missionaries from our ward:

President & Sister Christensen  7/17                               Guatemala City East Mission

Sister Anna Christensen 5/18                                    Peru Cusco Mission

Elder Nicholas Hans Bell 10/18                                Mexico Hermosillo Mission

Sister Amelia G Stephens 1/19                                 Canada Winnipeg Mission

President & Sister Littlefield 1/18                               Salt Lake City Temple Square Mission

Sister Morgan Keller                                                   New Zealand Hamilton Mission

Elder Taiden Gregson                                                  California Los Angeles Mission

Elder Niall Thorley                                                       Peru Lima Central Mission

Elder Paul & Sister Kay Lynn White                               Nebraska Omaha Mission

The other elder you know in your mission is not on here because when they split our ward, he stayed in the 1st Ward.

I’ve attached an essay I’ve always enjoyed and thought you might like.  Eugene England was an English professor at BYU when I was there, but has since passed away.

We sure love you and are proud of your sacrifice.  Keep up the awesome work.

Blessing the Chevrolet
By Eugene England

For a moment Abijah felt stunned; in this, his first real emergency, he had
almost forgotten God!
He turned to Brother Tuckett.
Clory, sitting on a boulder near-by, wondered at the sudden purpose in Brother
Tuckett’s movements. What were they going to do? And then she saw Brother Tuckett
appear with the bottle of consecrated sweet oil. She heard Lon say, ‘You be
“Mouth,” Brother Abijah,’ and the full significance of the scene burst upon her.
Why, they were preparing for ‘the laying on of hands’! For Abijah would have to be
‘Mouth’since he held the higher priesthood! She sat up in horror. Administering to
an ox!
She saw Melanchton Tuckett rub the oil between the animal’s red ears and then
both he and Abijah rest their hands, one over the other, on its head.
‘We unitedly lay our hands upon thy head, O ox . . . this oil which has been
dedicated and consecrated and set apart for the healing of the sick in the household
of faith. . .’
Bewilderedly Clory grasped the fact that this prayer had all the earnest
supplication of the ceremony performed for any ailing human being.
.... Clory watched him calmly speak to the ox. Opening its eyes, it stared at the
men with its gentle, liquid gaze. She was not greatly surprised when it scrambled to
its feet.
—Maurine Whipple, The Giant Joshua

At vArious tiMEs i have heard and read, with mild curiosity, of the anointing of animals by the power of the priesthood in pioneer times, but it wasn’t
until i found myself with my own hands placed in blessing on the hood of my
Chevrolet that i really felt what that experience meant to those early saints, who
depended on their animals, as we do our cars, for quite crucial things.
one evening last fall, Charlotte and i drove about sixty miles to visit a young
couple in our branch, converts of a few years who had slipped into inactivity and
growing doubt but were now trying to rebuild their faith. We had supper and a good
visit and gave a blessing to their new daughter who had been ill for some time with
a vague disorder that kept her crying severely for long stretches. When we tried to
return home the car would not start. We managed to push it to the only garage in
that small town just before it closed and were told that the trouble was apparently a
broken timing gear which would take about two days to order and install. our young
friends lent us their car to drive to our home and bring back when we came for ours.
When i phoned to check two days later i was told that the timing gear was installed
but for some reason the car would not start; i drove over anyway and tried to help,
but as the afternoon wore on and we tried all kinds of variations of the timing
apparatus, plugs, etc., we could only get an occasional rough chug and some
backfiring. the mechanic finally said he was afraid he would have to tear out the
new timing gear and check it, which would take well into the next day. But i had to
be back home to conduct an important Branch meeting that night, and when my
anxiety reached a certain point, i found that it was quite natural, while the mechanic
was helping at the gas pumps out front, to literally place my hands on the car and
give it a blessing, explaining to the Lord that i was about His work, that my branch
needed me, and i needed some extraordinary help to get there. the mechanic came
back, made another adjustment, and half-heartedly tried the starter again for the
hundredth time. so help me, i was not even surprised when, after a few mild growls,
the engine started. the mechanic was incredulous and insisted on a test drive before
he would let me go; after a few miles the engine was still running quite rough but
he agreed that i could probably get home and then have it tuned up some more
later—and i was off. it was only on the long ride back that i became properly aware
of what had happened, was amazed, and gave .thanks.
i have had many occasions to bless my wife and my children and have not been
surprised to see them healed, against all the odds, or relax from pain into peace or
sleep under my very hands. And on a couple of occasions when we had car trouble
during our many trips back to utah from California or Minnesota they have suggested
that we pray for help and it has seemed to come. i now remember, while on a little
used Nevada back road in early spring, driving onto the shoulder to look at some
flowers, finding myself stuck in hub deep mud, and after a family prayer, inexplicably
making it back up on the pavement. And a number of times, following such a prayer,
we have limped across hundreds of miles of desert or a nighttime of closed stations
with leaking radiators or worn bearings or something else that should have stopped
us. But those things have occurred in fairly naturalistic ways that i sort of took for
granted—as nice experiences for my children but nothing miraculous—and haven’t
thought much about until recently, when i started blessing my Chevrolet.
At Christmas this year we visited our folks in utah and on our way home noticed
there was a certain nagging mushiness when we tried to accelerate and also that a
noisy muffler was getting louder. Crossing south Dakota on a saturday afternoon
we found few mechanics available, but finally one took time to look at the car and
found a dirty fuel filter, which he replaced, and a loose tailpipe connection, which
he tightened and wired together so it couldn’t work loose again. When the car still
had no pickup—in fact, seemed worse—he took a look at the mileage (84,000) and
cheerfully declared that the transmission was probably going ($400), but i could
probably make it home. We started out again but found that now we couldn’t get up
over 40 miles an hour on the level, could barely make it over those infinitesimal
variations in the landscape they call hills in south Dakota, and were getting about
three miles per gallon. i calculated that even if things didn’t get worse it would take
us well into sunday to get home and we would probably run out of money for gas
before then or stall on one of the (comparative) mountains of Minnesota. And if
things did get worse, we could be marooned on the south Dakota prairie (fairly
dangerous in January) or at best stuck in some motel until Monday when someone
might be able to put in a new transmission—except that we couldn’t pay for it.
suddenly i found myself gripping the wheel with a special intensity and giving
the car a blessing again. i told the Lord that my family was in danger and that our
Branch needed us the next day and it was time once more for some special help. i
felt impressed to take the next exit, which led us to a town some distance from the
freeway, and without any surprise felt directed to a certain station. the owner looked
things over, disconnected a vacuum tube, and had me drive off for a test. there was
no change and i went back disappointed and for the first time surprised. But the
station owner greeted me with a grin and said, “i’ll bet i know what the problem is;
i heard it as you drove off.” He put the car on the hoist and soon found out he was
right. Disconnecting the tailpipe at the place the previous mechanic had wired it, he
pushed a hose down it and found that the inner wall had collapsed almost shut. He
explained that my Chevrolet was from one of those few years when they had experimented with double-walled tailpipes. sometimes, in the extremes of heat and cold
of the upper Midwest that inner wall collapses, shutting off the exhaust and producing
symptoms much like a bad transmission or an engine that needs overhauling. in fact,
the reason he recognized the problem for what it was is that a friend of his had, just
the month before, wasted $500 on his engine before he discovered that he had this
very problem. the only reason i had been getting any power was because the pressure
had forced the tailpipe connection loose so that the exhaust could escape there; and
when the previous mechanic had wired that so it couldn’t force open, the engine’s
power was shut down. i found myself quite calm, without surprise, as he told me
these things, without anxiety when he was unable to locate a new tailpipe at that late
hour on saturday but then barely caught one supply house in time to get a length of
some flexible pipe and some clamps and managed to cut out the curved section where
the collapse was and clamp in the flex-pipe securely enough for us to get home.
i do not understand fully why or how the Lord does these things—though i know
He does. in fact, if i think about it much, there are difficulties: How about our free
agency and our need to learn to solve our own problems and be maturely independent—not like infants always asking for help? How fit all this with the Lord’s assurances that He makes His sun and rain to come down equally on all His children—the
just and the unjust? How about all that suffering, apparently uninterrupted by God,
in the sub-sahara famine, southeast Asia’s constant bloodshed, the animal-like
packs of deserted children in south American cities, the emotional destruction during
slow death in American nursing homes? Couldn’t God have veered the typhoon that
killed thousands in Bangladesh or the earthquake that killed thousands in iran as
well as guide the mechanic to straighten out the timing on my Chev or me to
someone who could cure my car? i don’t know. Perhaps it has something to do with
God guiding people rather than interfering with nature; perhaps it has something to
do with His being asked in faith and for reasons that have to do with His most
important purposes, which aren’t just keeping people alive but saving their souls.
Yet He seems mysteriously selective about helping there as well. And of course,
even when He does clearly respond it isn’t always the way we want or expect. in
that almost too painfully moving autobiographical account, “the Death of a son”
by Carole Hansen, that appeared in Dialogue (Autumn 1967), we were powerfully
reminded that God, in response to a priesthood blessing, can give assurance and
peace, even to the point of being misunderstood—and then eventually can give
conviction of His care and the child’s ultimate welfare—without giving what parents
emotionally want most, the child’s life. Again, i don’t know why or how.
All i really know is that i continue to ask blessings and to see them given. Last
week our Branch held a special fast and had a prayer session for the four-year-old
daughter of some friends of one of our members: she had to come from Colorado for
extremely dangerous heart surgery at the Mayo Clinic to correct a congenital defect.
the parents had lived with the specter of losing this child for four years as she grew
into a poignantly frail elfin joy while they waited for her to be old enough to risk the
operation, and they had fasted each week over the past months as the time grew close.
they had been told the chances were about 50-50, but somehow none of us was
surprised when the last exploratory catheterization at the Clinic revealed the condition
less serious than had been supposed and when (after an anointing by her father and
a local rochester Branch brother) the operation went extremely well and she was up
and skittering around after only a few days in intensive care. Last fall i felt moved to
give a special blessing to a dear and extremely capable friend who was suffering
anxiety and self-reproach under the pressure of his professional responsibilities and
the possibility of failing his family and himself by not meeting them, and i had no
doubt that the Lord would bless him with the measure of self-confidence he needed
to succeed, as He did. And yesterday a faithful, long-suffering father and i were
suddenly called out of our sunday school preparation meeting to find his child in
the chapel having a severe seizure. (she has had a condition from birth that causes a
reaction, at entirely unpredictable moments.) As the father took her in his arms and
held her jaw so she wouldn’t bite her tongue, i placed my hands on her head and
through the power of the priesthood rebuked the uncontrolled shaking of her entire
body. As i continued to stroke her head, the shaking quickly quieted, and then we
carried her to the car to be taken home to rest and i returned to explain to those who
had been present what had happened and to ask their prayers for her.
the opportunities, the needs, come often, and the Lord’s response forms a bright
thread in the texture of gospel living. But i don’t fully understand why or how. i
only know that i continue to ask—and to acknowledge the Lord’s hand in all things.

To Mom and Dad, From Morgan

Hello mama and dad!

So here are some random things goin on with me!

It's getting cold, so we are going to buy some longer dresses and skirts today!

I've been using this face wash and I havent had acne this whole week!! Its been great Haha.

I've really been practicing my cooking skills, and havent been too bad! The main thing we eat when members dont feed us is rice with vegetables cooked with onion in oil. It's super simple but so tastey as well!! Meto loooves jasmine rice, and I have really begun to enjoy the taste of it as well. It's been fun experiencing different polynesian foods!

This week has had its ups and downs. At the beginning of the week, I was really struggling and kind of wanted to go home. Not because I'm missing home that much, but because I've just felt done at trying and failing to be better. I prayed and asked why I've only been put with companions that push me to be slothful and disobedient, why hes put me in situations that He knows I won't be able to resist. After reading in the scriptures, I hears in my head "why do you think this is about you?" I realized that the trials and situations I'm put in are not just for me, but for others and i need to be more open to that. It really helped a lot :)

Also someone came on chat with a super interesting question! They asked "if christ performed the atonement so that we could return back to our Heavenly Father,  why did he need to take our burdens upon him as well as our sins?" That really struck me hard. I know that christ took our burdens on him because he loves us, but it got me thinking about how he didnt need to. Did he? I guess I'd like to hear your thoughts and opinion on the question :)

Thanks for all the support! I love you guys lots :)

Sk

Deep questions!

So glad you found answers through prayer to  some of your challenges.  That was a powerful answer you received.  I do hope you get a companion that helps you stay focused a little better. When are the next transfers by the way??

Jesus certainly has his free agency. I think he committed himself long before coming to earth, though even when here he had that moment where he asked if the cup could be passed from him. Unfortunately he was the only one who could save us. And he did!

I think the atonement is a great balancing that includes help in many things, including our burdens. He took them on in partnership with us. We still bear our burdens but we have someone to help us get through them so we don’t have to on our own.  I suspect we’d be overpowered  pretty quickly without his help.

Love Dad

The Week Where I Get Fat

Fun fact of the week: We have a member in my ward (who is one of my favourite people of all time) who wears hoops everywhere. She even wears them to the Gym when she works out.

Hello all!

Sorry for not writing last week! P days are for preparing for the week to come, sometimes physically and other times mentally. Last week I needed a mental preparation day :)

This week has been wonderful! It has been very very busy, which has been quite a wonderful change from weeks in the past. Since it still gets dark around 6 PM and we aren't allowed to tract in the dark, we have been setting appointments with members from 6-9pm and it has been incredible! Not only are we busy every single day, but Sister Meto is getting closer to members in our area and they are trusting us more. It's super great! We even went out with one of the recent concerts to do missionary work! Shes 17, and is planning on serving a mission. She even asked us if she could come out with us! Shes so adorable I love her.

The only down side is that they feed us food, delicious polynesian food with meat and taro and all the works... I have not stayed as slim as before the mission haha. Worth it though!

This week was also a week of conferences! We had Zone Conference which was amazing. We havent had a normal zone conference for about 3 transfers, so it was nice to listen to president and sister Cummings, and to hear more about what they feel we need to know.

We also had Stake conference on Mothers day! It was super great. My favourite quote from stake conference was when a young woman got up and talked about opportunities.

"A man was drowning in the ocean and boat passed by and asked if he needed help. "No thank you, God will save me!" was the mans reply. Another boat passed by and asked the same thing, to which the man replied "no thank you, God will save me!" The man eventually drowned and when he got up to heaven he asked God "I had faith, why didnt you save me?" God responded: "Bruh, I sent you two boats!"

Have a great week!!
Much love,

Sister Keller

Google Translate Saves Souls

Fun Fact of the week: I asked Sister Meto for an interesting fact about Fiji and she said "one interesting fact about Fiji is they're crazy". I can vouch for that...

Bula! (hi in Fijian :))

This week has been spectacular! We have been quite busy, but that's been every week since going into the OTC.

We are teaching a woman named Seema, and what's interesting about that is she's from India! In Fiji they speak quite a bit of Hindi, so my cute companion knows how to understand Hindi. But she can't quite speak it, so we use google translate on our phones to communicate with her. That's been interesting and occasionally problematic, but overall we've been able to teach some solid lessons with her! She wants to be baptized which is way cool! She has a lot of health problems, so she hasn't been able to come to church yet, but we are hoping soon :)

The OTC has been crazy recently! There was a new update for the Bible and Book of Mormon requests, so now we are asked to have local missionaries deliver them to people instead of mailing them which is way cool! For all my friends serving stateside, If you get a call from me I promise I'm not stalking you ;) (Even though I completely have the power and authority to do that... watch out) I've even been sending referrals to people in Argentina, (El hogar de mi corazon) Y mexico. Heavenly Father was really blessing me when he gave me the opportunity to use my Spanish and continue to practice it. I never want to leave the OTC and plan on dying here :) I just need to let president Cummings know...

Not too much else has happened in the land under the land down under (can't believe I haven't used that yet..). We now have Elders serving in Nawton which is cool! Neither of us have cars (well we share the car but the other sisters use it more so we are mostly walking), so we actually run into them quite often. It's pretty funny! The meal roster to feed the missionaries has become a bit competitive though... I'll update yous on that in a later week.

Hope yous all are having an amazing week! Keep up the good work and stay wild! But not too wild...
Much love,
Sister Hermana Keller

1. Since it's almost winter, I will no longer have my super cool watch tan line in a few months most likely :( sending a picture to commemorate
2. When your companion says shes going to do language study then you catch her taking selfies...
3. Our new tiny district!!
4-5. Sister Meto showing me the islander way by helping me figure out how to wear a lava lava. Next i just need to learn how to hula...
6-7. "You're too tall!" Sister Meto tells me since I'm one of the tallest sisters and shes one of the shortest...

What Does It Take To Fill A Font?

Fun fact of the week: police officers here wear bright green coats (idk if they do that in the states but I've only ever seen it on British TV shows before now haha).

So we had  baptism this week! It went as perfectly as a baptism could have gone, minus the preparation the night before...
All of Friday morning we had OTC meetings, so we didnt get back to our area until 4, which gave us very little time to visit all the members we needed to make the baptism happen. We finally got around to all the members we needed to see, did one last check up with the family getting baptized, then drove to the church to set up. When we got to the church, there were heaps of cars in the parking lot, so we bounced and grabbed Maccas because what other way is there than to drown your stress in McDonalds? (That's purely hypothetical, please do not answer) we at this moment, received a text from our bishop that the two boys didn't have white pants for tomorrow! So us being baby missionaries and not knowing what to do, started calling everyone we know to see if anyone had white pants. Our wonderful Zone Leaders told us there would most likely be some somewhere by the Relief Society room, so we decided to just brave the crowd and head back. we started driving towards the chapel, when a police car stopped us in the middle of the road. It was just a breathalyzer test, so we should be all goods, except for the fact that Fonua has never done a breathalyzer test before, so when they asked her to count to 5 she breathed very strongly into the machine. The police officer gave her a curious look and said no, he wanted her to count to five. So she looked him dead in the eyes and said "five!". He told her that will do and let us go (he probably made a note that she wasn't intoxicated, just crazy). We finally made it to the chapel and discovered why there were so many cars... it was a youth dance! We awkwardly walked in and started cleaningand filling the font. A few of the chaperones came in to see what we were up to, and even enocouraged us to join the dance (tsk tsk!) Needless to say we barely made it back to our flat by 9:30 Haha. But we had a beautiful baptism on Saturday morning, and the spirit was incredibly strong So long story short: what does it take to fill a font? Helpful members, a stress run to Maccas, a surprise breathalyzer test, a very loud youth dance, two confused sister missionaries, and many many prayers answered.

I know this church is true and I'm so grateful for the gospel in my life :) I know it sounds cheesy, but I really dont know where I'd be without Christ and his Atoning sacrifice in my life. I hope if any of you feel like you may be lacking faith, you can find the courage to pray and ask for guidance because I can guarantee, Heavenly Father will show you the way. Ofa Atu!
Much love,

Sister Keller

Let's Hustle

Fun fact of the week: Sister Fonua can juggle three things at a time! Unless it's slow drivers, patience, and roundabouts...

2nd fun fact: there are more roundabouts than stop lights in Hamilton! :)

3rd (less) fun fact: Fonua has road rage...

This week has been busy busy busy! On Tuesday we had an amazing lesson with our family that's getting baptized! We took them to see the temple, even though its closed down, and I just felt such love for each of them. The spirit truly testified of the truthfulness of the gospel to them, and the importance of temples and families in my own life. On Saturday we took them to a baptism another set of Sisters in our District had. It really helped them feel confident about their baptismal date on this upcoming Saturday. I am so excited for them, I have so much love for each of them!

Thursday was Zone conference! We had a pretty amazing training from Sister Cummings about keeping an eternal perspective. Then the Assistants to President gave a great training on how to better plan our day. We put our knowledge into action and planned for the people we need to see this week and how we would best help them. It was awesome!

From all across the globe!
We are working with a woman in our area named Seema who barely speaks English and who's first language is Hindi. It's been... interesting. I'm not sure if she will progress too quickly, but she loves when we talk about Jesus.

We started working with someone over Skype who lives in Michigan! She has a lot of questions, which can be a good and bad thing...

Kingsley and Frank in Zambia still love the gospel and really want to get baptized, but it's a little difficult with where they're at. We are going to try to find another way for them to get baptized, but they may have to move closer to a branch. The Lord will always provide a way!

My spiritual thought this week is found in Doctrine and Covenants 93:24 which reads:
"And truth is knowledge of things as they are, and as they were, and as they are to come." I love this scripture so much. It makes me think about how truth is independent, how it exists solely because it does. It doesnt matter what the world says about our church, the validity of our gospel does not depend on any other perspective or opinion. It's true because it's true. I love this gospel and am beyond blessed to share it with the Kiwis of New Zealand :)

I hope yous all have a wonderful week!
Much love,

Sister Keller

Exciting times for missionaries!!

Fun fact of the week: missionaries can now call their families every P day!!!!!!! So! Much! Excited!!

Heyyyyy ma dudes!

This week has been hectic! Tuesday through Thursday was kinda slow, but Friday things really picked up. In the morning, I sent 5 Book of Mormon requests to local (which pretty much just means I sent them to the local missionaries so hopefully they can teach them :)) and even started teaching one of the people! She is an old lady who always gets our names wrong, but is so cute and I love her :)

Sunday we had 7 people come to church. Seven! That's sometimes more than we would have in a month!!! I am so grateful for the Lord and all that he has done to bless the small Nawton area :)

Sorry this email will be pretty short, and I probably won't be able to respond to everyone today, I'm just super excited to talk to my family!! Things should be more organized next week though.

I love this gospel, the church really is true!! The Book of Mormon will bless each of your lives individually if you choose to read it :) have a fantastic week everyone!

Much love,
SK

P.s I think I have a new email? If I dont respond try sending it to morgan.keller@missionary.org

Mom and Morgan's Exchanges this week

Well and the scripture for this week 😊.
Doctrine covenants 107 talked about the quorum of The twelve apostles and the quorum of the 70s. I really liked that they all had to be unanimous on decision-making and if they have these qualities they were promised in verse 31 that if these things abound in them they shall not be unfruitful in the knowledge of the Lord.

Something for all of us to try for.

So I just got off of the phone with the drivers license division and Jackie, after I asked her a dozen questions, just asked her supervisor if she could get the info from me.  So they are going to start the process to get you a copy of your license.  It can take up to 90 days!  Hopefully it all goes through and they mail you the forms to sign in the next few days.  She said it's close to expiring before you get back and they my deny the request, but they should call me if that happens and I can let you know.  If you don't get the forms on the next three months call me and I'll call them back.  Sorry, bit of a pain.  There will be a fee you have to pay, she wasn't sure if they take American Express or not.  If they don't then use your bank card.  It's now in the hands of your guardian angels 😇

This week was a little rougher than I was expecting.  I didn't realize how much pressure it was for me waiting all week to have Victor over with his new girlfriend. (After analyzing it I'm still not exactly sure why it was so stressful, more than the usual with Victor...  Too long waiting, fear, anticipation, wondering why he wanted us to meet her they've known each other 3 weeks, that he dropped stuff off at the house the other day without me knowing, another pregnancy? ) There were a lot of other things going on as well, so I kept thinking it wouldn't be a big deal, but it was much more difficult for me than I thought it would be.  She seemed nice, a little out of it, hate to say stoned, but slightly slurred speech and a bit of confusion answering some questions.  Her father raised her it sounded like, she met her mother last year, but they didn't get a long.  I do feel for her, tough life, and otherwise seemed nice.

Tanya walked in and gave Ana a bunch of her clothes and I thought of saying are they modest? But no instead I said, any inappropriate underwear?  Tanya said come on Mom you asked me not to give her any I wouldn't do that.  I said I was just asking/checking.  She said I don't have the right to ask her that and she huffed up the stairs.  I said I do and she looked down though the rails and said it wasn't my business.  Taylor followed he up the stairs like The Little puppy he is.  Not much of a back bone there, he really does follow her around like a puppy...  I've wondered if it would work long term for them because Tanya could probably always control the relationship.

Dad asked the kids to come in and watch the super bowl in the movie room, v and k came in for a bit. I think Tanya was still ticked with me. Dad mentioned it was being like a stranger in his own home.  I feel bad because I was check out by that point.  My other trigger was when Victor had walked up behind me while we were talking in the kitchen, I was making cookies, I just froze.  Tanya style, I wanted to walk away, but I just stood there cursing dad for leaving the room and praying he, V, would move away from me.  I got some problems don't I.  I didn't realize I was still so tripped up by him.  This is turning into a journal entry, sorry. Sigh.

To keep or delete.  I figure you'll get it, but I don't want you to dwell on it.  I'm going to be fine, just didn't realize I was so worked up over the girlfriend thing.  Now reading back over this, I'm wondering if it was him just coming by last week.  I looked up security systems after that... It's the second time since Thanksgiving he's dropped something by.  It's a little unsettling for me.  Not enough to get the pepper spray out 😂😂 but enough that it's in the back of my mind.

Anyway, hopefully all is well with the license!!

Love you

to me

MAMA YOU ARE THE BEST EVER THANK YOU I LOVE YOU SO MUCH!!!

I'm sorry things have been stressful with Victor and Tanya. I've been thinking about you a lot this week, especially because I'm doing the mental health therapy stuff online. So the program is called CBT (Cognitive Behavioral Therapy) And it's honestly super super helpful because It's more of me fixing my problems than my therapist person (It's weird cus I've never met him and he's over everyone in the pacific haha). Anywyas if you want to watch a video on it that would be cool! IT's helped me so much with all my anxiety and I thought I'd tell you :)

I wrote about a bunch of missionary stuff to dad so read off his email! I don't have a lot of time because we went to early morning seminary then slept in and came late to email, but I'm doing well! I still have sad days and angry moods, but overall I'm happy. The mission is helping me with a lot of problems I didn't know I had, but also I get to serve others which just makes me super super happy.

I PROMISE i will email you more next week!!
Much much love,
SK

Fun to read your letter and glad you had a pretty great week.  I'm writing today just in case I don't get a letter off to you during the week.  As a last minute get away, I booked a flight to Italy!  I leave on Wednesday and get home next Tuesday.  I'm going to go to the Rome Temple open house with Tricia and Justin and their kiddos!  Crazy, I know, but hopefully it will be super fun.  But I don't think I'll take my laptop so I'll send some pictures, but might not be writing a lot on my phone.  You'll have to remind the family to give percy his ear medicine while I'm gone!!  They forgot last time.

So crazy stuff this weekend.  Klint flew down on Saturday and went to the Jazz game with Troy and then flew home that night.  But he shared some of the Kate stuff, so they may still be dating for awhile.  I guess things started moving way to fast for him and so he just pulled back and said he needed more time.  But Kate was kindof like, do you love me or do you not?  We were just friends till you begged me for a date and then she felt she should date him, and he's the one who proposed.  I think Betsy is super happy that its called off right now.  Her mama bear got ruffled!  You don't go pulling that stuff on a daughter!  So I think Kate is going to date other people too at the moment and they'll see what happens.

So other thing is that Tanya came home this weekend.  I guess she is taking a little breather from Taylor.  Two days ago she was posting kissing pictures on snap chat and now she needs some space.  So as we were talking today, she loves that he does anything she asks him to do (like in my last letter, he is her puppy dog) but he doesn't instigate and he loves to sleep in and take naps which is driving her crazy.  Made me laugh.  She keeps saying he's a hard worker, but he just works hard for her.  She doesn't quite see it that way though.  So we'll see what happens over the next month or so.  She didn't bring stuff home that I know of so I think she'll head back down sometime.

Anyway, that is all the gossip I got.  I'll send you pics from Italy.  Love you
mom

Klint came up today to see a jazz game so we got to hang out quite a bit.  It was fun.  He gave us more details on Kate, and it sounds like she’s been having a tough time with the break-off of her engagement but is doing better and even went on a date with someone else last night.

Last night, mom and I went to a Republican event, a dinner for the Davis county republican party at the Davis County convention center.  I think mom enjoyed it, though she wasn’t excited about going at first..  Some soldiers spoke and we sat at Congressman Chris Stewart’s table (you met him!).

Percy got groomed today, by that same woman (I forget her name) whose always done him.  He’s so much more pleasant to have around when he’s clean.

Ethan and Ana pretty much watched TV all day.  What are we going to do with those kids.  Ethan did do a practice ACT.  He’s getting there.  Ana says she took a practice ACT at school but got bored after doing about a 5th of the questions and just guessed on the rest.  Sigh.

Not much else I can think of at the moment.  Will try to send something more spiritual tomorrow.  Love you tons.  Keep up the great work you are doing.

That sounds way fun! Send any pictures yous have got. Man sorry to hear about Kate! That sounds very stressful :(

Ahh I'm so jealous!! That sounds so cool I hope yous had heaps of fun.

This week was pretty awesome, except for when my companion got sick haha. We have 5 sets for March 2nd which is super exciting! It was all the work of the missionaries before me, but I am more than happy to be here with them to celebrate their exciting day :) My companion committed me to taking some Spanish chats, and although my Spanish is that of an 8 year olds, I have seen the Lord work through me. I sent a referral down to Mexico! I'm waiting for the missionaries to get back to me. If they don't call by Tuesday I'm going to be muy upset and track them down... We have been calling and calling down in South Africa trying to find someone to baptize Frank and Kingsley, but they keep telling us to call other bishops and branch presidents and it's not going anywhere which is more or less frustrating. Oh well I know it's all the Lords timing, it's just hard because they're ready just the members aren't. I'm trying to keep my weekly emails short so I have more time to email family, but then I end up telling family all the stories I would have sent in my weekly so it just goes around hahaha.

I love yous heaps! Thanks for all that you do for me. Tell Ana no, I haven't seen a real Kiwi yet but I'm working on it ;)

Much love,

Sister Keller

We read your letter for family prayer tonight.  It was such a powerful letter, with the story of the 17 year old investigator going to early morning seminary and your comment that you rely on your testimony to be stronger than you are when people try to tear you down.  Morgan—this is what real strength is, relying on faith to hold onto Christ, the good and purity that you mentioned, even when you can’t see the end from the beginning.   I know the Lord is sustaining you.

Know that there have been times of painful doubt in most every faithful person’s life, doubt of one kind or another. I think of Oliver Cowdery who saw visions with Joseph and literally walked and talked with angels, but as the church grew and his role diminished and major setbacks happened, like the Kirtland safety society (the bank) failed, the temporal realities of life and its imperfections caused him to become estranged from Joseph Smith and the Church for many years.  Faith sometimes can seem a hard way to go, very challenging, but then the next moment, the spirit lifts us, and the burden is light as a feather.  Christ’s yolk is easy to bear, because if we let him, he does most of the pulling.  We just have to let him.

Love you tons.  Keep up the awesome work.

Dad

1, 2, 3 ... OTC

Fun story of the week: Yesterday Sister Fonua hucked an umbrella at my face and said "I just threw some shade your way".....

Heyya folks!

This week has been a super good week! Most of this week has been getting used to the OTC, so I'll kind of explain what it's like! (If that's super boring then just skip to the pictures lol) So the OTC is a small building full of 12 sister missionaries sitting at computers. Sounds scary, right? It's actually super fun. Whenever someone calls the number from LDS.org or sends a chat to "chat with missionaries", one of the 12 of us pick up the chat. 9 times out of 10 it's either someone trying to argue with us or waste our time (#wastehertime2k19). So chats and calls aren't very helpful in our missionary work. What usually allows us to work with people is when we get bible or Book of Mormon requests. Whenever anyone requests a free bible, we have to call them so we can verify their address and ask if they would mind if we had missionaries drop it off. Most the time we are able to bare our testimony and also send a Book of Mormon which is awesome! Usually if it's a bible request they won't let us send missionaries to them, but I know that if they read the Book of Mormon, they won't be able to deny the spirit and their hearts will soften :) When we get Book of Mormon requests we basically do the same thing, and also ask why they're interested and usually they'll let us send missionaries which is awesome! This week I even knew one of the missionaries we sent to deliver a Book of Mormon, sister Proffit from my BYU YSA ward!!! IT was cool to see a familiar face :)

Another cool thing this week is we have the amazing opportunity to teach Frank and Kingsley, who live in South Africa. Since they are half way across the globe, we have to teach them at 8am NZ time, which means I haven't had breakfast for the past week ;) Honestly the OTC in general messes up our eating schedule, because sometimes we have a 6-9 shift and don't eat dinner until 9:30. Anyways back to Kingsley and Frank. They really really want to get baptized! But there are no missionaries close to them. Or members. So we have been calling bishops and branch presidents and district presidents and mission presidents trying to find someone to baptize them. It will happen eventually!

I don't have any really cool spiritual thoughts this week, I just love Doctrine and Covenants 93:24 which reads: "And truth is knowledge of things as they are, and as they were, and as they are to come". The truthfulness of this gospel is mostly felt in the testimonies we hold in our hearts, but more importantly it is a knowledge that we have of this gospel. Every time we bare our testimonies and say we know the church is true and that we know Jospeh Smith was a true prophet of God, Heavenly Father blesses us because of our faith, that can withstand any trial that is placed in our way.

That's pretty much been this week in a nutshell! I know that Heavenly Father is using us to hasten his work, and is not afraid to use technology to do so! I am so so so blessed to be able to serve here in Hamilton New Zealand so that I can be a sister in the OTC! What an amazing gospel this is.

Have an amazing week, share your testimony with someone!
Much love,
SK

Elder Natriss, exchanges, Waimana, oh my!

Silly sister Keller moment of the week: so the NZHM is also known as the 20 kilo mission because most missionaries go home 20 kilos (or 40 lbs for those of you who dont live in the islands (which is all of you...?)) Larger. Since I've also grown an inch you can't tell that I've gained un poco weight from photos, but I weighed myself the other day and thought "oh man I'm a few lbs heavier, this darn mission!" then remembered that I ate an entire pizza by myself for the first time in my life, and then had dessert... sigh. Everyone learns something from the mission, maybe for me it's better eating habits. Not that I'm saying I'm never going to eat an entire pizza by myself again...

What a week, what a week, what a week! Heres my big three!

Zone Conference ft. Elder Natriss: we had an AMAZING zone conference! Elder Natriss and his wife came down and they both gave awesome talks with heaps of inspiring goals and commitments. We are so blessed to have living prophets speak to us today!!

Exchanges: I got to go on exchanges with my favourite STL of all time, Sister Bashaw!! Shes dying soon (mission dying, not irl dying...) and had heaps of wisdom to pass down!! Also I was companions with Sister Adlard who has been with me on all 3 of my exchanges so far! Shes way cool and we were able to talk about missions and life while we tracted. I MISS TALKING TO OTHER SISTERS
Anyways
Exchanges went beautifully and I'm so grateful for all the awesome examples in the NZHM :')))

Waimana: this is just funny to me. Theres a small town called Waimana about 30 minutes drive away from Opotki, and three of our active members live there. We have frequent dinners with them, and even tract up there once a week. Well we learned thanks to our new shnazzy smart phones that WAIMANA ISNT ACTUALLY IN OUR AREA and is in the Whakatane area so we've been leaving our area once a week on accident?? We are getting it figured out with the APs... rip

Miracle moment: at the beginning of this transfer we lost a progressing investigator, erm person we're working with, named Te Rangi because she moved and we didnt have her address. Well we found her, taught her two lessons this week, arranged for her to come to church yesterday, and at the end of church she casually turned to me and asked "so how do I go about getting baptized?"!!!!???!?! Now all we have to do is break the news that she needs to get married, but otherwise shes golden! Very exciting.

Funny moment: we were contacting our list of past investigators and knocked on a door and asked for someone named Tony. A guy answered and said that he had moved away a long time ago. As we thanked him and walked away, our eyes caught the glimpse of a silver chain with the name Tony spelled out... ah the life of a missionary(,:

No spiritual thought this week because I've already written HEAPS but I hope yous all know that I have a strong testimony of this gospel, and i know that Christ loves each and every one of you no matter where you are in life. All he asks is for you to reach out and he will always support you.

Yous are the best, thanks for everything!!
Much love,

SK
